A proposal to enhance electric reliability in Upland

Our battery energy storage system would store energy and use it locally when it is needed most to bolster the area against power outages. Our state-of-the-art facility has advanced features that make it safe for Upland and the surrounding area. We look forward to sharing these details with the community.

Energy Demand is Rapidly Increasing in California

California state produces 25% less energy than it consumes each year as the peak energy load has increased 11% in the last decade (2012 - 2022). battery storage allows California communities the energy options to ensure energy demand does not outstrip supply.

Defend Against Outages and Blackouts

When demand is higher than supply, power outages or blackouts can occur. In 2022, California accounted for 24% of all U.S. power outages in the nation, accounting for the most power outages of any state in the past 20 years. Battery storage can bridge the gap and help defend Upland against blackouts by supplying power when you need it most.

Enable Efficient Use of All Power Sources

Battery storage can capture and store all power sources - including renewables that need to be used as they are generated. The energy can then be utilized when there is demand, making energy generation more effective and efficient.

Meet Local Fire and Safety Standards

The project will be reviewed by and designed in conformance to the standards of the San Bernardino County Fire Department, which has been involved in preliminary site plan reviews and will work with GridStor to comply with adopted fire codes.

Safety

Energy storage systems are regulated by the City of Upland Fire Code, San Bernardino County Fire Code, California Fire Code, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) regulations, and UL test standards.

Systems use established lithium-ion technology similar to that used in your cell phone , but include proven and advanced safety systems and 24/7 monitoring to ensure safe operations.
